Letter from the President
Beta Tau/ Denison 1983
Happy 2017 from your Alumnae Chapter officers and committee chairs! We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and time with friends and family and are looking forward, as we are, to a great spring. Thank you to all who were able to participate in our fall events. Particularly notable among those were the very well attended potluck, hosted by Lindsay Sestile; the elegant, yet competitive ornament exchange, hosted by Liz Long Downey at the Scioto Country Club, and our most successful Study Sweets sale ever, coordinated by the tireless Kari Gustafson.
This fall your Executive Board decided to increase our focus on service going forward. So, along with the celebration of the fraternity’s international day of service (thank you to the volunteers who served dinner to over 80 families at the Van Buren Shelter on 10/17/2016) and our monetary contributions to CASA and the Theta Foundation, we are working to develop a more robust and hands-on relationship both with the Columbus chapter of Dress for Success and our local CASA chapter. We will be conducting another clothing drive for Dress for Success for spring/summer work appropriate clothes and accessories, and we will be exploring other active ways to support this worthy organization. Our CASA volunteer coordinator, Molly Seguin ( who spoke at the fall potluck) has lots of great ideas for ways we can get more “hands on”, including a request for help providing personal journals for the young people starting to age out of the legal system. Springing into action, we are planning a journal gathering and decorating event—details inside! We will also be soliciting volunteers to assist with CASA’s inaugural Arty Party in May, again see the details within. We are all very excited and energized by this developing partnership with our CASA chapter and the children it serves and we hope you will be too!
As well as these service events we are also looking forward to Founders Day where we will have the honor of being addressed by 50 year honoree and Leading Woman, Nancy Hardin Rogers; the Senior Service welcoming our seniors from Alpha Gamma, Beta Tau and Gamma deuteron into the world of alumnae-hood, and our spring potluck and meeting—details in this newsletter. (If anyone is interested in hosting the potluck please let Samantha Sharpe, our VP Programs know. I promise it’s fun and easy!) Finally, and as always, if there are certain types of events you’d like to see more of or if you’d like to make 2017 the year you get more involved in the chapter please let us know. I look forward to seeing you all in 2017!
Loyally in Theta,
